Reflections on 2017 / Preparing for Goal-Setting for the New Year
2018 is upon us! Whether you’re the type to set resolutions or not, most of us can’t help but reflect on the year that’s behind us and set our sights on the horizon.
As you all know, I’m a huge list-maker and goal setter. This time of year is big for me since it’s usually when I start to think seriously about what I would like to accomplish in the next year as it relates to physical fitness, my yoga practice, finances, travel, etc.
Next year will likely be a huge transitional year for me and will require me to make some big decisions about what I would like life to look like in the future.
As a self-proclaimed “podhead,” I’ve naturally been collecting tips and strategies from my favorite podcasts over the past few weeks. Last week on The Friend Zone, the crew reflected on 2017 in order to start set themselves up for 2018. One of the hosts, Fran, suggested that everyone take some time to answer the following questions for themselves. Because Dustin, Fran, and Assante were kind enough to share these with their listeners, I thought that I would pass them along to my readers.
Between now and the new year, I recommend taking 10 minutes or more to sit down and reflect on these questions. If you’re a journaler (or even if you’re not but you like writing things out!), grab a notebook and jot down your responses. It’s a great way to set yourself up for goal-setting for the new year.
- What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned in 2017?
- What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about yourself?
- What’s something that you accomplished that you’re proud of?
- What’s something that you didn’t accomplish this year that you’re going to work to accomplish in 2018?
- What did you do in 2017 that made it a stronger year than 2016?
- Overall, was 2017 a good year to you and were you good to the year 2017?
These questions facilitate an awesome reflection on the past year and nudge you to start thinking about how you’re envisioning 2018.
I’ll be back next week with some of the exercises that I’ll be doing to start setting my sights on 2018 goals.
